It’s impossible to talk about post-apocalyptic games without mentioning Fallout, and if you’re looking for a game similar to S.T.A.L.K.E.R., then Fallout: New Vegas just might be the game for you. The aesthetic and thematic similarities are evident for all to see, though the first game, Metro 2033, is probably the best of the bunch, due to its excellent atmosphere and slower pace. In any case, Metro is sure to be among the first franchises to come up whenever we’re talking about S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-like games. The same can be said for Exodus, though it also features levels that are larger, more open, and more varied, so it does feel closer to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Last Light, while a good game in its own right, it’s much more fast-paced and packed with more flashy action sequences than its slower, more atmospheric predecessor. Apart from the first game, there’s also Metro Last Light and Metro Exodus, which take a bit of a different approach compared to the original. Still, Metro 2033 has great atmosphere and nails the survival horror vibe, so S.T.A.L.K.E.R. More importantly, the level design is much more linear than the large open levels of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. However, unlike S.T.A.L.K.E.R., most of Metro’s environments are either underground tunnels or ruined urban neighborhoods of Moscow. games, but it also has its fair share of dissimilarities too.įirst and foremost, Metro 2033 takes place in a post-apocalyptic wasteland in Russia, so it’s a great match in the aesthetics department. fans flocked to it, as it had a lot in common with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. It's simply that the lower difficulty settings are extremely wonky and counter-intuitive.When the original Metro 2033 launched in 2010, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. This isn't about picking the hardest difficulty to be "hardcore" or anything, mind you. Master was the original difficulty setting and the others were added in at the last second to appease the publisher. There's nothing realistic about lower difficulties, and there's nothing more "authentically" STALKER about it. On novice, up to 60% of bullets fired will never make it to the target, because they just disappeared thanks to the RNG. That is, the bullet doesn't go off-target because of scatter - I am saying the bullet will sometimes just blink out of existance entirely because of a value in the game called hit_probability_gd. Plus, in difficulties below Master, a percentage of bullets you shoot will just disappear from the game entirely no matter how on-target your shot was. Even if you're using the right ammo type, it might take multiple headshots to take an enemy down. Plus, lower difficulties are far from more "realistic", because bullets don't do near as much damage as they should. Running and gunning, or just not paying attention and running into a mutant will get the player killed even faster in Master difficulty. Master does not make the game "mindless" though, because everything you mention is absolutely necessary in Master difficulty - even moreso because bullets do more damage to everyone INCLUDING the player. Some players like it more because they cant be bothered with realistic things such as missed shots when firing on the move or enemy armor resisting bullets or having a chance to miss, having to use the right type of ammo, using auto fire when its necessary and avoiding it in other situations where its detrimental.to each their own. Most of the fine elements that make Stalker combat so good are simply nullified on Master. Some hits being off target even when aimed correctly.that is realistic and the way it should be, also important to know that the hit probability is dependant on the distance, player stance and movement and is strongly affected by the accuracy upgrades of your wep, again these things lose a lot of their importance on Master. Master turns Stalker into just another shooter. It makes it easier because it makes it mindless, so you dont have to understand the game mechanics. Plus, playing on a lower difficulty also means that bullets have a chance of not registering as a hit even if the shot is entirely on target, because of the hit_probability_gd value. But the increased damage applies to the player as well, making everything in the environment more deadly to the player, especially because the AI is more intelligent by leaps and bounds in Master when compared to the lower difficulty settings.
